President's Message
The past month has made us all feel like we are still up north somewhere - brrr! But, I’m sure I speak for all when I say it’s great to be in Florida and enjoying the many wonderful activities at Pelican Pointe. Even with cooler temps we are having a great PPWA season. Kudos to our Activity Leaders who have been working tirelessly to fill buses, coordinate carpools, and attend to all the many details of their planned activities and events.
Please mark your calendars now for the PPWA Annual Meeting on Monday April 21, 2025 at 9:30am in the Main Dining Room. It’s an important year because members will cast votes that day for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. You'll hear about our progress and financial status, and you'll enjoy refreshments and friendly social time with fellow members.
To prepare for the elections our Nominations Committee will be reviewing prospective Officers and recommending a slate of candidates. Please, now is the time to let us know if you have interest in running for an office! We need volunteer leaders who are committed to our mission and enthusiastic toward guiding our organization into the future. We would love to talk to YOU!
Board Job descriptions are linked below and we hope you’ll consider a volunteer role in PPWA.

Paying By Check? Please Read This!
PPWA encourages all members to use credit cards when registering for events on our web calendar. It's easy and secure, and your event registration is immediately confirmed. Credit Cards make it faster and easier for you and for our volunteer leaders.
If you opt to pay by check please be aware of two important points to remember:
1. All checks must be made out to PPWA and sent by US Mail to PPWA, 499 Derbyshire Drive Venice FL 34285. They may not be dropped off. Please DO NOT mail your checks to Club Express! Some members have done this and we are charged $1 for every check that Club Express has to forward back to us.
2. Your check must be mailed right away after you register for the event. We have now set the system to send reminder emails to anyone with unpaid transactions. If your check is not promptly received the Activity Leader may drop you from the event.
Announcing Apple Pay & Google Pay
PPWA members may now enjoy the convenience of using Apple Pay or Google Pay when registering for events through the web calendar. If you are registering on a mobile device and wish to use your digital wallet, select Apple Pay or Google Pay on the payment screen. This is a completely optional convenience for members and there are no additional fees. You may still select a credit card or check as your payment method.
Trying to Complete Your Payment?
Some members sign up for an event but do not pay right away. It’s easy to go back and make your payment but please remember your registration is not complete until you have paid. There are several ways to get back to the payment screen and the attached “cheat sheet” will show you how. When you get to the payment screen you can select cash or check, or use your digital wallet on a mobile device. You can always reach out to an Activity Leader or Board member for help. How to Complete Your Payment
| Club Express Mobile App Now Available
PPWA members may now enjoy the convenience of accessing the PPWA website quickly & easily by using the Club Express App on your mobile device. This is a free download from the App Store or Play Store. Search for Club Express. Use your regular PPWA website login credentials to begin enjoying the PPWA mobile app website.

Art on the Run
On January 28th our group spent an absolutely delightful day in our very own city of Venice. We started our Art Adventure with a Discover Sarasota Trolley Tour aboard Dolly the Trolley. We discovered the history, landmarks, neighborhoods, natural beauty, and artistic architecture of our historic city! We were amazed by all we learned during the 90-minute tour. We then made our way to the Venice Art Center where we enjoyed a lovely lunch in the Art Cafe followed by a guided tour of the Art Center. At the end of the day we could not help but be grateful that we get to live, play and learn in this beautiful city!
We will be traveling to Naples on February 22nd for the 2025 Naples Art Institute’s National Art Fair in Cambier Park. This annual world-class outdoor art fair features original works by local, national, and international artists. The fine art and craft show showcases artists' work in 17 different categories including painting, jewelry, watercolor, ceramics, metal, sculpture, and wood. The National Art Fair is consistently voted among the Top 200 Art Shows in the nation. A motor coach from Pelican Pointe will be provided. We hope you can join us for a fun and enriching day.

Theater Trivia Question: What local facility has provided scenery and stage properties for Broadway, television and film? Theater club learned it was the Koski Production Center with the Asolo Rep Theater on an interesting back stage tour. We are now looking forward to seeing the sets and costumes we witnessed being made on stage for Lady Molly of Scotland Yard February 6.
Registration for Lady Molly of Scotland Yard, Crazy for You Dinner Theater on February 27 (we filled the bus!), and Moulin Rouge March 19 are closed, but if you are interested, put your name on the waiting list in case of cancellations.
Our last show and bus trip of the season will be Les Miserable at Van Wezel on April 13. The show is open to PPWA Theater members and a guest. Les Miserables is undisputedly one of the world’s most popular musicals. Bus transportation will leave Pelican Pointe at 11:30 for a 1:00 performance. Seats in rows 13-16 plus transportation will be $166.50 each and is due by February 21. Enjoy songs from the iconic score such as “I Dreamed a Dream”, “One Day More”, “On My Own”, “Bring Him Home”, and “Do You Hear the People Sing?”

The group’s switch to Thursday mornings has been met with enthusiasm, and we enjoyed our first time with this schedule on January 9 in the Clubhouse Library. Come join us for Scrabble – Pelican Pointe Style on the 2nd Thursday of each month 9:30 – 11:30. We play with the Scrabble Dictionary and use 8 tiles instead of 7. Several ladies have suggested lunch at the Clubhouse immediately after – come enjoy!

| Creative Crafts
Crafters were active both December 2024 and January 2025! In December, we crafted a Christmas tree with dowels and macrame cord using a weaving technique. Each was unique and in keeping with the holiday season. See pics below.
In January 2025, we painted rock from Lake Erie. Using Mandala dotting tools, each crafter chose a design and decorated their rocks. Some crafters chose to do a free hand design to paint their stones. Again, as unique as each of our crafters, the rocks are also unique. See pics below.
In February, our hearts turn to Valentine’s Day for our craft!

On a “cold” Wednesday January 22, a hearty group of Garden Club women traveled via motor coach to North Fort Myers to tour Echo Global Farms. We were able to walk mulched paths to see how Echo is able to introduce sustainable plants, techniques and technologies to farmers around the world who are struggling to feed their families.
After our tour, we traveled a few miles down the road to Buckingham Farms to have a farm to table lunch. The warmth of the trip was sharing time, stories and laughter with the ladies of Garden Club. Priceless!
