What’s Happening … November 2024
| Presidents Message
Welcome back to all returning members. After the unwelcome hurricanes and tropical storms of October I sincerely hope that the only excitement for all of us in November will be the awesomely fun activities offered by PPWA. I hope everyone traveled safely back to Venice and did not encounter too much property damage from October’s storms.
Today (November 1st) is opening day of registration for the PPWA Cruise to Paradise party to be held at the Clubhouse in February! Find all the details in this edition of Around the Pointe and look on the website calendar on the date February 4, 2025. Registration and payment will be made through the web calendar and space is limited so don’t delay. This Board-sponsored event is sure to be a great celebration and we hope to see you there.
This month we will focus our website support on making sure members know how to log in to www.ppwavenice.org and understand how to use the web calendar to sign up for activities and events. Look for more info in this newsletter along with dates for our November Help Sessions. We want to do everything we can to make the new PPWA website easy for all to use.
Many thanks to all members for your support as the Board and Activity Leaders launch another fantastic PPWA season. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I hope to see you soon.

Message from our Vice-President
We need your help! PPWA is looking for women who will help energize our organization with new ideas for clubs and events. It's a great way to have your voice heard and to make new friendships. New to Pelican Pointe? It's a great way to immerse yourself in our community. We will provide you with training and guidance.
Interest groups are the core of what we do. We support Activity Leaders by managing the budget, having procedures in place, sponsoring special events, communicating to all, and problem-solving when needed.
The spring of 2025 will be an election year and the PPWA membership will elect some new leaders to key positions. Please reach out to a current Board member if you have any interest.
Check out our job descriptions on our PPWA website. Go to Members/Documents/Job Descriptions.
Or click on this hyperlink Job Descriptions
Please consider serving in a leaderhip position!

| Communication
In an emergency ---how would you identify an emergency contact for someone in trouble? On any given day at a PPWA activity it could be critical in an emergency to know the member's entire name.
Please if you have a PPWA name tag wear it to activities. It's a way to know people and remember names and it's important for safety. If you do not yet have one please use the Name Tag Form to purchase and wear one.
Thank you! And, thanks to Lynn Mintz for the suggestion!

Travel Club
We “traveled” to many countries by learning how to play the game of croquet. Although croquet is a French word meaning “little hook”, the game is primarily played in England, Australia, United States and Egypt.
We had a fun lesson at Sarasota County Croquet Club in Venice. We will offer more lessons in the future. Check out their website for membership info. https://www.sarasotacountycroquet.com

Please join us at 1:00 for a presentation about Florida’ Friendly Landscaping, by Forest Hecker, a Community Educator UF/IFAS extension Sarasota County. Florida Friendly Landscaping (FFL) is about matching the right plant in the right place and providing the right care at the right time. The FFL Principles focus on protecting natural resources and Florida’s natural beauty. Forest Hecker will discuss how these principles interlace with community associations like ours in Pelican Pointe. We will all learn how to incorporate these principles in our gardens and how to become stronger proponents of the Florida Friendly Landscaping.

| Recipe Swap
All five Recipe Swap Groups are looking forward to beginning our new season and we will start our meetings in November. We are anticipating establishing a new group as many new members have signed up. New members will be notified in November for an orientation meeting.
Each group meets monthly through April for luncheons at members’ homes. Each member prepares a unique recipe based upon the theme chosen by the hostess. In past years, we have enjoyed luncheons such as Irish, Mexican, Holiday Brunch, Kentucky Derby and many more interesting themes. It has proven to be an excellent venue for sharing creative food preparations, swapping recipes, and socializing with a fun group of ladies!
Expectations for a delicious season abound!
